We are proud to announce that our colleague, assoc. prof. Vanda Juranić Lisnić, has become an associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Prof. Juranić Lisnić, a faculty member at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, is a dedicated scientist whose research focuses on immunology and virology. She has published more than 30 scientific papers in high-quality international journals, authored several book chapters and presented her work at numerous international scientific congresses. Our colleague Ivana Bertović, PhD is one of only 12 young scientists from across Croatia and from all scientific fields whose first (and we are certain not the last) competitive research project intended for postdoctoral researchers (PDIP) has been approved under the latest call of the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ). The project, titled “The Role of the PTPIP51 Protein in the Regulation of Cytomegalovirus Infection”, marks an important achievement for Ivana and our institution.

Construction works on the expansion of the Center for Proteomics are currently underway, including the addition of a new floor that will expand laboratory and research facilities. The project will provide new laboratory and office spaces, as well as a lecture hall, further increasing the Center’s overall capacity.

On September 19th, 2022, prof. dr. Georges Verjans and Seyar Rashidi, PhD will be sharing some of their ideas regarding virus-specific tissue-resistant T cells and  and human brain model for studying virus/host interactions.

Lectures will be held at the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Medicine (hall – Vijećnica) at 9 am.

Lecturers are funded through project “Strengthening the capacity of CerVirVac for research in virus immunology and vaccinology“, KK.01.1.1.01.0006, awarded to the Scientific Centre of Excellence for Virus Immunology and Vaccines and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Prof. Stipan Jonjic and his research group has received ERC Proof of Concept (PoC) as the first grant beneficiary in Croatia. This is not the first time that Prof. Jonjic has received such a prestigious grant, as in 2012. he was the first to receive the ERC Advanced Grant.

Aim of the GLIOVACC project is to develop and test the efficiency of the vaccines for glioblastoma multiforme, the most obnoxious form of brain tumor.
