Head of the Center for Proteomics Receives EFIS Eastern Star Award

We are delighted to announce that Ilija Brizić, the Head of the Center for Proteomics and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, is one of three scientists from Eastern Europe to receive the prestigious “Eastern Star Award” from the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS).
The award was granted for his project focused on elucidating the mechanisms of microglia‑driven synaptic pruning induced by latent viral infection.

Assoc. prof. Brizić has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, led multiple national and international research grants and teaches several core courses in Medicine and Pharmacy. His scientific excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including Croatia’s highest National Award for Science, which he received in 2018 in the category of young scientists and again in 2023 as the annual National Award for Science.

The Center for Proteomics is especially proud of this important achievement and congratulates Brizić on this well-deserved recognition.
