Challenges in the diagnosis of vaccine-acquired immunity in poultry

On 24 April 2026, members of the CAPRI team from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, attended the workshop “Challenges in the diagnosis of vaccine-acquired immunity in poultry”, hosted by Vaxxinova Zagreb d.o.o. The scientific programme brought together academic and industry experts for a series of presentations and discussions on veterinary immunology and poultry vaccination research, with a focus on ongoing project activities, key challenges, and future directions in vaccine development.

The programme opened with a presentation by Dr. Anto Vrdojak (Vaxxinova Zagreb d.o.o.), followed by Dr. Maja Cokarić Brdovčak (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Medicine), who provided an overview of project tasks and achieved results. Prof. Dr. Bernd Kaspers (Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich) presented fundamental aspects of the chicken immune system, including its structure, function, and available research tools. Dr. Kristi Moore, Chief Scientific Officer at Vaxxinova, discussed the advantages and limitations of poultry vector vaccines. Prof. Olga Zorman Rojs (University of Ljubljana and affiliated veterinary institutions in Slovenia) addressed poultry vaccination under field conditions.

The workshop concluded with a round table discussion on the current status and future prospects of vector vaccines, followed by closing remarks and a laboratory tour at Vaxxinova Zagreb d.o.o. Overall, the event provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and strengthened collaboration between academic researchers and industry partners in the field of veterinary vaccine development.
