Maja Cokaric Brdovcak, PhD
Postdoctoral researcher
Maja Cokaric Brdovcak obtained her Master's degree in Molecular biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb in 2006. and her PhD in Biomedicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka in 2014. During that period, her research was focused on molecular mechanisms of p53 tumor suppressor activation upon ribosome biogenesis stress. After obtaining her PhD, in 2016. Maja moved to a postdoctoral position at the Department of Biotechnology, University of Rijeka where she studied the biology of herpesviruses and the roles of non-coding RNAs in the replication of herpesviruses. In 2019. she joined Center for Proteomics where she currently investigates the pathogenesis of viral infections, particularly immune evasion mechanisms. She has also been involved in research on cytomegalovirus as a potential vaccine vector against other pathogens, focusing on mucosal immunity. Maja published 15 scientific papers and participates in several scientific projects. She received several awards for her scientific work including the Award for the best young scientist awarded by the Faculty of Medicine in 2015.
