Jelena is a postdoctoral researcher working on projects involving cytomegalovirus immunoevasion mechanisms. She holds a Master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology from the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb from 2014. Shortly after, in 2015, she joined the laboratory of Prof. Stipan Jonjic at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka as a PhD student working on the project “Virus-specific Activating NK Cell Receptors and Their Viral Immunoevasion”. She obtained her doctoral degree in the fields of immunology and biomedicine in 2019. Jelena received several awards including Ralph Steinman Memorial Award at 12th ENII EFIS EJI Summer School on Advanced Immunology.
